I bought my first car sight unseen off eBay, the tires were rotten, the suspension was shot, and I was terrified to drive it around because it was always on the verge of breaking. My dad and I (mostly my dad) spent the next few years fixing it and driving up and down Eastern Long Island’s beaches looking for waves.

A week later, I was driving the FJ home, little did I know how much that vehicle was going to change my life. If your mom ever tells you to go look at a cute car, do it.

I was tired of paying rent, over my 9-5 job, and wanted to travel full time. I bought Bruce from a guy in Santa Cruz, spent four months outfitting it to live out of, and then traveled out of the truck full time for nearly two years. I spent most of my time searching for remote campsites and empty waves, and yes, I found them.

I wanted a smaller truck to take down the Pan American Highway, something extremely reliable, capable off-road, and fun to drive. I stumbled upon Wall-E on Expedition Portal and knew it was the perfect truck for the trip. A 2L-TE turbo diesel engine, 5-speed manual transmission, twin air lockers, and a custom aluminum flatbed made it nearly ready to go.
